This report provides a snapshot of the range of different types of intervention that can be described as brief interventions (BIs), and that are currently used in European countries in the field of substance use and, in particular, concerning illicit drugs. It also represents a first step in developing a clearer definition of BIs in the
field of substance use, by describing how BIs are currently defined in practice.
