Meanwhile, U.S.-led coalition airstrikes continued into 2015, as sectarian, jihadist, militant groups and proxies of regional powers with vested interests continued to operate. These developments came against the backdrop of a worsening humanitarian crisis – an outflow of refugees in large numbers adding another dimension to an already explosive situation in country and the world.
