N2  - In the Islamic tradition, Hijrah refers to Prophet Muhammad's migration from Mecca to Medina in 622 CE. However, the Islamic State (IS) has manipulated the same concept to attract Muslim followers to its territories in Syria and Iraq. The article analyses IS’ propaganda magazine, Dabiq, to explore how IS has created a false understanding of Hijrah and exploited the concept for its own political and military agenda
