N2  - The Sri Lankan insurgent group, the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam (LTTE) amassed a large membership, which consisted of a significant number of women. The LTTE is notorious for perfecting the tactics of suicide terrorism, including pioneering the use of suicide belts and the use of female suicide bombers in South Asia. The group prided itself in propagating gender equality and women‟s rights for female terrorists within the conservative Tamil society. This paper examines how women‟s status was supposedly elevated, but simultaneously exploited for the strategic and tactical advantages
